COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION
COURSE
“We provide an integrated
method of teaching, presentation, workshops, hands on experience
and practical field exposures where we can learn many new and
innovative ideas and approaches”
~ Executive Director
NEICORD feels that the North East
has a particular flavour of its own which is reflected in the
cultural and development paradigms of the people who live and
work here. Key among the factors that affect the learning styles
of people are the tribal nature of its people, the view of
themselves as ‘backward’, the prevalent learning style in school
and university as passive rote-learning based, the view of many
people in authority (such as teachers and police) as waiting for
people to make a mistake so that they can be punished and
finally that you can learn from an ‘expert’ such as a teacher or
someone with a degree (other participants/students opinions are
not really useful). The factors result in tending to be passive
when attending a training session. People seem to find it hard
to share their thoughts and develop new ways of thinking. This
has a significant impact on the process of helping participants
to open themselves up enough to change and grow which is the
essence of successful training. NEICORD has developed a training
methodology which is tailored to respond to these circumstances
and ensure that people who come to training change their
paradigm and develop skills that they will use in their
communities.
The Church is very influential in
many of the North East States and therefore NEICORD with its
huge links into the churches in all states has a key role to
play in assisting the transformation of thought patterns and
actions in these societies. The North East has a particular
culture which results in some difficulty in training situations
and therefore requires a specific methodology to empower
training participants. NEICORD has a specific methodology and
accredits all its trainers in the use of this before they train.
The major courses are accredited with Martin Luther University.
NEICORD has a
suite of quality training courses providing relevant and
interactive learning for a range of participants. It also runs
seminars and consultations in these areas. Community
Transformation (CT) Course is an innovative broad-based 20 day
structured residential course empowering people to transform the
communities in which they live and work. It is presented by
local practitioners and tied closely to two field visits- one
rural and one urban. It is composed of a variety of sessions
about a large range of key practical issues such as those given
half day modules. Each module is explored in terms of how we can
best respond in a practical way in our communities.
Accredited NEICORD Trainer
(ANT) Course:
A 3 day course covering the
innovative NEICORD training methodology tailored for the North
East. Two days are spent in participants presenting and
evaluating sample modules according to the NEICORD training
method evaluation template. The way we teach is so important in
empowering people in the North East so that they are then able
to feel capable and positive and to empower others through
working and encouraging others in these same ways.
Half day specific modules:
A variety of interactive half day
modules based on the acquiring of key skills to use wherever the
participants are to build the communities in which they live,
work and play.
