TRANSFORMATION TRAINING

Training that empowers communities in the North East

NEICORD feels that the North East has a particular flavor of its own which is

reflected in the cultural and developmental paradigms of the people who live and

work here. Key among the factors that affect the learning styles of people are

the tribal nature of its people, the view of themselves as ‘backward’, the prevalent learning style in school and university as passive rote-learning based, the view of many people in authority (such as teachers and police) as waiting for people to make a mistake so that they can be punished and finally that you can only learn from an ‘expert’ such as a teacher or someone with a degree (other participants/students opinions are not really useful).

These factors result in people tending to be passive when attending a training session. People seem to find it hard to share their thoughts and develop new ways of thinking. This has a significant impact on the process of helping participants to open themselves up enough to change and grow which is the essence of successful training.

NEICORD has developed a training methodology which is tailored to respond to these circumstances and ensure that people who come to training change their paradigm and develop skills that they will use in their communities.

Transformation Training Options

NEICORD has a suite of quality training courses providing relevant and interactive learning for a range of participants. It also runs seminars and consultations in these areas. The structured courses are described below:

Community Transformation (CT) Course:

An innovative broad-based 20 day residential course empowering people to transform the communities in which they live and work. It is presented by local practitioners and tied closely to two field visits – one rural and one urban. It is composed of a variety of sessions about a large range of key practical issues such as those given as half day modules on the immediate right of this page. Each module is explored in terms of how we can best respond in a practical way in our communities.

Accredited NEICORD Trainer (ANT) Course:

A 3 day course covering the innovative NEICORD training methodology tailored for the North East. Two days are spent in participants presenting and evaluating sample modules according to the NEICORD training method evaluation template. The way we teach is so important in empowering people in the North East so that they are then able to feel capable and positive and to empower others through working and encouraging others in these same ways.
